Which grass is best for lawns in Nigeria?

For most homes, Tuff St. Augustine gives the lushest result: it loves heat, handles some shade and tolerates salty coastal conditions. Carpet grass (Axonopus) is a low-cost classic for humid southern states, Bermuda is the choice for sports fields and hot dry northern states, Zoysia gives a dense showpiece finish, and Seashore Paspalum suits beachfront sites. Use the grass finder above for a suggestion for your state.

Do you really work anywhere in Nigeria?

Yes. We supply grass and send installation crews to all 36 states and the FCT – Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, Ibadan, Benin City, Uyo, Kaduna, Owerri, Calabar, Jos and everywhere in between. Delivery and travel are included clearly in your quote.

How much does lawn installation cost?

It depends on the grass, the size of the area, how much preparation the soil needs and how far the site is from our farm. Send your location and approximate size (the quote form converts plots to square metres for you) and we'll give you an itemised price.

Should I choose sod or sprigs?

Sod is a ready-grown mat of grass: you get a finished green lawn on the day it is laid. Sprigs and plugs are small pieces planted across the soil – cheaper, but they need several weeks of watering and weeding to spread into a full lawn. St. Augustine is not grown from seed, so it is always planted as sod, plugs or sprigs.

How soon can we walk on a new lawn?

New sod usually roots into the soil within two to three weeks if it is watered well. Keep heavy traffic off it until then; after about a month it is ready for normal family use.

How often should a new lawn be watered?

Water new sod every day for the first two weeks, ideally early in the morning, so the soil underneath stays moist. Then water less often but more deeply. In the dry season and harmattan an established lawn typically needs a deep soak two to three times a week – an irrigation timer makes this effortless.

Will grass grow under trees or beside high walls?

St. Augustine is the most shade-tolerant warm-season lawn grass and does well with around four hours of direct sun a day. In very deep shade no lawn grass thrives; we'll suggest ground covers or a paved or mulched feature instead.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes – weekly, fortnightly or monthly visits for mowing, edging, fertilising, weed and pest control, hedge trimming and irrigation checks, for homes, estates and commercial sites.
